2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Throttle Cable on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Begin the throttle control cable service by holding up the accelerator pedal inside and taking off the cable core and plastic retainer from the top part of the pedal arm. After that, pull off the wire from the pedal arm and remove the clip securing the cable to the panel on the dashboard. Through an engine access hole, pull the cable housing into the engine compartment and release the cable from the routing clips on the engine valve cover. Take the cable connector apart at the throttle body by undoing the rear snap. Afterward, push the throttle cable out of the bracket at its hole by pressing down on the release tabs. Slide the throttle cable inside the hole in the bracket and make sure the ends lock together, before you attach the cable ball to the throttle body bellcrank ball. Feed the cable into the routing clips on the valve cover, then slide the grommet off the plastic housing and fit it inside the dash panel. Pull the cable housing into the rubber grommet and guide it up through the hole in the dash and then clip it to the dash panel from within the cabin. Slip the core wire of the throttle cable through the hole at the top of the pedal arm and push the cable retainer into that hole until it snaps securely. When you're ready to start the engine, try to move the accelerator pedal first to ensure there aren't any bindings.
