  • Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module for Side Impact on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
    A: Before servicing the Side Impact air bag Control Module, disconnect the negative battery cable, wait for two minutes for the stored electricity to leave the system capacitor, then remove and replace the cables as shown. Push your seat all the way forward so you can reach the bottom of the B-pillar trim more easily and then take off that section from the inside of the B-pillar. Take out the connector from the Siacm body wire harness connector, lift the body wire harness retainer off the tab on the Siacm mounting bracket and remove the four screws securing the Siacm mounting bracket to the base of the B-pillar sill panel. Remove the sill panel and the Siacm along with its bracket together. When mounting, bring the Siacm and its mounting bracket to the sill panel and set the four screws into place, starting in the top front and moving around to bottom rear, then tighten all the screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Push the body wire harness retainer into the Siacm bracket, reconnect the Siacm body wire harness and put the lower trim back onto the inside of the B-pillar. Put aside connecting the battery negative cable for the time being, since you need to perform the air bag system verification procedure once your supplemental restraint system parts are serviced.
