2002 Jeep Liberty Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step to working on the parking brake cable is to block out the parking brake cables and then take out the rear section of the seat. After that, take off the cable saddle bracket and release the cables from the front mount. Advance the carpet to expose the two parking brake cables from the floor and then force the cables with the grommets through the car's structure. With the first spring removed, split the brake shoes and pull the cable out of the hole at the lever end of the brake shoe. You can break the tangs by inserting a screwdriver and put a wrench on the remaining tangs to remove them from the plates. The first step for installation is to place the cables into the support plate, connect the cable to the lever on the brake shoe and then reinstall the main brake shoe hold down spring and shoes. Insert the cables through the floor board, press the grommets in and attach the cables to the new front mount using the cable saddle bracket. Refit the carpet in the rear, install the rear seat back, release the lock out from the lever and give the parking brake a test.
