2002 Jeep Wrangler Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before servicing the fuel rail, let the fuel system pressure drop by pulling off the fuel tank filler tube cap and using the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. On first glance, detach the negative battery cable and extract the air tube found above the throttle body, bearing in mind that different vehicles may ask for the removal of the air cleaner ducts. Remove the electrical connectors from each injector and make sure you tag them all for easy identification. Remove the latch clip from the fuel supply line and disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail. If the vehicle has a throttle body, detach the throttle, speed control and automatic transmission cables there too. Pull out the cable routing bracket connected to the intake manifold, take off the nut holding the crankshaft position sensor pigtail harness to the fuel rail stud, remove the clamp and pull out the harness. Remove all dirt or particles from the fuel injectors and free the fuel rail mounting nuts or screws before you rock the fuel rail loose from the intake manifold. During installation, clean the injector bore and add a little clean engine oil to each of the injector's O-rings to help you install them. Put the tips of each fuel injector into the matching injector bore and press them in to seats in the manifold. Apply 11 ± 3 Nm (100 ± 25 in. lbs.) torque to the fuel rail mounting bolts, then join the crankshaft position sensor wire harness to the stud on the fuel rail mounting bracket. Replug the fuel injector harness, attach the fuel line and latch clip and if the pressure test port fitting is equipped, fit it with a protective cap. Set the routing bracket, throttle cable, speed control cable, automatic transmission cable and air tube to their connections at the throttle body. After that, put on the fuel tank cap, link the negative battery cable, start the car and look for fuel leaks.
