2002 Jeep Wrangler Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service a pilot bearing on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The pilot bearing is serviced by taking out the transmission first, then removing the pressure plate and clutch disc. Remove the pilot bearing by using an internal (blind hole) puller. Before placing the bearing into the car, lubricate it with Mopar high temperature bearing grease or substitute bearing grease. Place the new bearing into the crankshaft by hand first and finalize its placement using a clutch alignment tool. Gently rub sandpaper with 180 grit on the flywheel and afterward use wax and grease remover to clean it. After that, fit the clutch disc and pressure plate before mounting the transmission.
