2002 Jeep Wrangler Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Functioning of a Release Bearing on a 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before servicing or repairing the clutch release bearing, take the transmission out. After that, unplug the release bearing from the release lever and get rid of the bearing. Make sure the slide surface on the retainer of the front transmission bearing is smooth; if it isn't, you should put on a replacement. Inspect the release fork and the fork pivot to ensure the pivot isn't loose or damaged and ensure the fork is straight and unbent. If the retainer spring is bent or harmed, replace it. Coat the crankshaft pilot bearing, input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, fork pivot and release fork pivot surface with Mopar high temperature bearing grease or something similar for the installation. Attach the updated release bearing to the release fork and refit the transmission afterwards.
