2003 Chrysler Sebring CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot on the Inner Constant Velocity Joint on 2003 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Find and remove the big clamp that holds the inner tripod joint boot in place, throw it away and then remove the small clamp holding the boot to the interconnecting shaft. Slide the boot along the shaft, down toward the camera, while holding the bearings on the spider so they do not become loose. After that, remove the snap ring securing the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft and slide out the spider assembly using a brass drift as needed. Examine and clean all parts involved in the spider, tripod joint housing and shafts, because worn pieces will need to be fixed by replacing them. During installation, slide the inner tripod joint seal boot retaining clamp onto the shaft and then put the new inner tripod joint sealing boot on so that the bead fits into the groove on the shaft. Attach the spider assembly on the shaft, so it is properly seated before you fit the snap ring on them. Put half of the grease from the service package inside the tripod housing and use the rest in the sealing boot. Fit the tripod housing housing onto the front assembly and shaft and clamp the boot onto the interconnecting shaft carefully. Fasten the clamp down with the Special Tool C-4975-A to prevent any stretching or indentation in the seal. Place a trim stick between the tripod's inner joint and its sealing boot, seating it flat in the housing. Put the interconnecting shaft in the middle of the tripod housing, take out the trim stick and place the trilobal boot so it fits with the tripod housing. Lastly, seal the tripod joint with the right boot clamp type, either crimp using Special Tool C-4975-A or low profile latching using Snap-On YA3050 or an equivalent.
