2003 Chrysler Town & Country Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Rocker Arm on 2003 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: To take care of the rocker arm assembly, the first thing to do is remove the lower and upper cylinder head covers. Turn every rocker shaft bolt one full turn until you can tell the valve spring pressure is gone and then take out the rocker arms and the rocker shaft. Be careful not to drive out the bolt from the rocker shaft during disassembly, to avoid damaging the retainer or bolt assembly. First, grip the retainer with pliers and pull it upward slightly to get it out of its place on the shaft. After that, take off the rocker arms and note the areas where each one was fitted. While installing the rocker arms, first set them where they were originally to prevent rocker assembly issues. Be sure that the longer bolt for the rocker shaft is properly placed when it is installed on the cylinder head. Set up the rocker arm and shaft sets on the pedestal mounts so all the pushrods line up with the lifter and rocker arm openings. First, fasten the rocker arm shaft slowly, in the center and then allow 20 minutes for the lifters to settle down before you can turn on the engine. After that, tighten the rocker shaft bolts evenly until they reach the end of their travel and are torqued to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).
