2003 Dodge Dakota Muffler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service or Replace a Muffler on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: Raise the car, support it securely, apply Mopar Rust Penetrant to the clamp nuts and give the penetrant 5 minutes to work. Open the nut on the clamp for the front hanger and remove the muffler from the rear to tailpipe connection, while keeping the tailpipe supported. Following that, take the muffler off the extension pipe or catalytic converter flange. If the upper front muffler support is absent, insert the bolts through the frame and tighten them so they reach 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.) torque, so that the insulators can slide above the ends of the upper and lower muffler hangers. Set the muffler onto the extension pipe or catalytic converter flange, followed by installing the clamp and just tightening the nuts at this point. Link the tailpipe to the muffler's rear end and tighten the clamp nuts on the muffler hangers on both sides to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After that, park the vehicle, lower it to the ground and check for any exhaust leaks and contact between the pipes and panels and fix the alignment accordingly.
