2003 Dodge Dakota Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Throttle Cable and Its Linkage on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: Inside the vehicle, carefully push up the accelerator pedal, take out the plastic cable retainer and take out the wire from the top of the pedal arm. After that, detach the cable core wire at the pedal arm. At the dash panel, push down on each cable housing retainer with a small flat tool and then ease the cable housing, to pull it into the engine compartment. Take the air tube off the top of the throttle body. To service 3.9/5.2/5.9L engines, pull the throttle body lever all the way forward and slide the cable end past the pin at the back of the throttle lever. Just tap the release tab with a small screwdriver at the cable housing on the throttle body bracket and lift the housing up straight toward the car ceiling. At the throttle body linkage, pull the ball socket of the cable off the linkage, pinch the clip ends close on the mounting bracket to release the cable housing, unsnap the cable housing from the valve cover retainer and take the cable off the vehicle. For these engines, insert the cable end onto the lever pin, guide the cable below the plastic cam if you have a V-8 and secure the cable to the throttle body bracket. When using the 2.5L engine, place the cable through the hole in the mounting bracket, snap it into place in the bracket, fasten the ball socket to the throttle body linkage and attach the cable housing to the valve cover retainer. Put the rest of the cable housing into the opening for the dash panel. Afterward, push the ball end of the cable wire into the hole in the pedal arm, fit the plastic cable retainer so that the index slot aligns with the index tab on the pedal arm, try the throttle and verify it works and then reinstall the air tube to the throttle body.
