2004 Dodge Dakota Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Throttle Cable and Its Linkage on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: You should begin servicing the throttle cable and linkage by securing the accelerator pedal, separating the plastic wire end from the upper pedal arm and carefully removing the cable core wire as well. After that, remove the core wire from the pedal arm and next release the metal clip attaching the cable to the dashboard. Remove the air box assembly at the throttle body and take out the cable that is connected to the routing clip in the dash panel. Pull the cable housing out of the dash and through the wire opening in the engine compartment. With the 3.7L throttle cable, push the throttle all the way, then take out the throttle cable pin from the other end of the bellcrank. To remove the throttle cable, press and hold the release tab with a small screwdriver or pick from below and then slide the plastic mount to the right side of the car. To install the accelerator cable, place the plastic mount into the throttle body bracket and push until the release tab sits in the hole in the bracket. Keep the throttle at its widest and shove the throttle cable pin inside the throttle body bellcrank. Take the cable housing, push it into the rubber grommet and out through the door in the dash, then attach the metal clip to keep the cable fastened to the panel. Pull the cut end of the throttle cable core wire into the top of the pedal arm. Then, insert the plastic cable holder and push it into the pedal arm so it locks together. Lastly, set the air box back in the throttle body, push the accelerator pedal and make sure there is no tightness before turning on the engine.
