2003 Dodge Durango Battery Tray Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install a battery tray on 2003 Dodge Durango?
    A: To change the battery tray, first remove battery in the tray. Then, un-install the Power Distribution Center (PDC) at the rear of the stanchions of the battery tray. Take out the two screws which hold on the inboard side of the battery tray to the battery tray support, the two screws on the outboard side which hold it to the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Next, undo the screw in the front of the battery tray which fastens it to the front closure panel, which is on the left side of the radiator yoke. To disconnect the battery temperature sensor, disconnect it to the battery tray, and then peel off the battery tray of the battery tray support and the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Unscrew the screw which holds the rear of the battery tray support to the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel, and then the two screws at the front of the battery tray support which fix it to the left side of the radiator yoke, and then remove the battery tray support with its connection to the left front wheelhouse inner panel and the left side of the radiator yoke. To install, clean and check the battery tray, place the battery tray support to the left front wheelhouse inner panel and against the radiator yoke on the left side. Install two screws, tightened to 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.) support battery tray to the left side of the radiator yoke and then install one screw, 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.), secure rear of battery tray support to the front extension of left-handed front wheelhouse inner panel. Place the battery temperature sensor on the battery tray with correct wiring routing in place then fix the battery tray on the battery tray support and the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Install two screws (tightening the rear screw first) on the outboard side of battery tray to the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.) and finally, screws two screws to the inboard side of the battery tray on the battery tray support 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.). Lastly, fix the battery tray front to the front closure panel on the left hand of the radiator yoke using a single screw tightened to 12.4 N m (110 inch lbs.) and then refit the Power Distribution Center (PDC) to the stanchions on the rear of the battery tray and replace the battery to the battery tray.
