2003 Dodge Durango Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace an alternator on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Unplug the negative battery cable, first, to avoid causing injury or harm to the electrical system during alternator replacement. Take off the generator drive belt and undo the plastic cover of the B+ mounting stud. With that, take out the three generator mounting bolts and move the generator to reach the wire connectors. At the back of the generator, take off the B+ terminal's mounting nut and remove the terminal. Press on the tab on top of the field wire connector and pull it free from the generator, then take out the generator from your vehicle. To install, put the generator next to the engine and snap both field wires into the back of the item. Place the B+ terminal on the generator mounting stud and tighten the mounting nut to 12 Nm (108 in. lbs.). Install the generator mounting fasteners, fasten everything securely with a torque value of 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) for the vertical and the long horizontal bolts and use 74 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) for the short horizontal bolt. Place the belt from the generator drive onto the flywheel pulley, making sure it doesn't overheat the engine and fit the cable protector cover over the B+ stud. As your last step, link the negative battery cable back to its spot.
