2003 Dodge Durango Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Starter Motor in an Automatic Transmission on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Before working on the starter, ignore and isolate the negative battery cable and then use some support to raise the vehicle. Take out the bolt and washer that hold the starter motor in place, then remove another bolt and washer while you are holding the starter. Move the starter motor down enough for you to take out the nut at the positive terminal of the battery, connecting to the starter solenoid B(+) stud. Before removing the starter motor from the transmission housing, detach the battery cable eyelet terminal from the solenoid B(+) terminal stud and take out the battery cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector from its receptacle on the starter solenoid. For installation, put the starter motor against the transmission casing and join the battery cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector to the starter solenoid receptacle, providing support for the starter motor as you connect them. Screw the solenoid B(+) terminal stud into the eylet of the battery cable and use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 13.6 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Install the starter motor to the housing for the transmission and put in two bolts and washers just enough to hold them, then tighten them to the appropriate torque. When finished, bring the car down gently and attach the negative battery cable again.
