2003 Dodge Durango Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: To work on and repair the steering knuckle, lift the vehicle and remove the wheel and tire before anything else. Also, get rid of the disc brake caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor. Take the tie-rod away from the steering knuckle, remove the stabilizer link and then pull out the hub or bearing. Place a jack stand under the lower suspension arm, then detach the lower ball joint nut and split the ball joint from the knuckle using Remover C-4150A. Take out the nut over the ball joint and split the ball joint from the knuckle by using Remover MB-991113, being careful not to harm the ball joint seal. After the steering knuckle is removed, fit the new knuckle over the upper and lower ball joints, install the nuts, tighten the lower one to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.) and the upper one to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Then install the new cotter pins. Fit the hub/bearing back, do away with the support bolt on the lower arm and attach the ABS speed sensor, brake dust shield, rotor and caliper. Once all is set, install the stabilizer link, the tie rod to the steering knuckle arm and then set up the wheel and tire assembly before starting to lower the vehicle.
