2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How should you remove and install an oil filter on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: All engines come with a full-flow, disposable, quality oil filter and using either a Mopar or similar oil filter is advised. Put a drain pan under the filter first and then loosen the filter with a wrench that fits it. Turn the oil filter in the opposite direction to get it free from the cylinder block oil filter boss. As soon as the filter separates from the nipple, lift the gasket side of the filter to lessen oil loss and pull it away from the vehicle's engine. Before inserting a new oil filter, ensure to clean the gasket area with a wiping cloth. When you're ready to install, moisten the filter gasket with oil or chassis grease and connect it to the adapter nipple on the end of the filter housing. After placing the gasket over the sealing face, screw the filter down by hand, only a little, to avoid damaging the filter. The last step is to add the oil.
