2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Prior to servicing and repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, disconnect the negative battery cable. Take out the fan and fan drive and then get rid of the accessory drive belt. After that, get rid of the vibration damper pulley and remove the vibration damper bolt and washer situated at the end of the crankshaft. Grab the bar and screw from the Puller Tool Set C-3688 and insert two bolts with washers into the puller tool to connect with the vibration damper and pull off the crankshaft. Before installation, make sure the vibration damper is in place on the crankshaft and set the installing tool from Puller Tool Set C-3688 onto it to press the damper onto the crankshaft. Secure the crankshaft bolt and washer after attaching them, tighten the bolt to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.); now, put in the crankshaft pulley and tighten its bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Replace the serpentine belt, the viscous fan drive and fan and then secure the fan shroud and link the negative cable once more to the battery.
