2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the power steering pump on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Before you touch the power steering pump, remember to release the drive belt using the tensioner and slide it off the tensioner pulley while it's still under tension. After that, disconnect the hoses from the pump, seal the fittings with caps and take out the bolts holding the bracket to pull out the entire pump assembly. After that, take out the pump pulley and the pump bracket. While installing, fit the pump bracket to the pump and tighten the bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) for 3.9L & 5.2L engines or 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) for 5.9L engines. Fit the pulley to the pump after that and secure the unit tightly to the engine block with bolts tightened to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Put the hoses onto the pump, secure them at 35 Nm (25 ft. lbs.), then position the serpentine belt. Ultimately, make certain that the pump is given power steering fluid alone.
