2003 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Inspect and Replace Seat Belts During and After a Service on 2003 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: After any seat belt service, go over all seat belts, buckles, the hardware used, retractors and anchors to see if they were correctly installed, are in good condition and work correctly. Replace any belt with a cut, frayed or torn tip, straighten twists in the belt and tighten the fasteners that have come loose. Replace any belt with an unfunctional or damaged buckle or retractor and any belt with a bent or broken latch plate or anchor plate. Never fix a seat belt part yourself; always buy the right, new and unused parts listed in the Daimlerchrysler Mopar Parts Catalog and replace the faulty component with them. Before you take off the rear seat belt and retractor unit, remove the rear bench seat from your vehicle. Lift the seat belt webbing and get access to the push pin fastener holding the turning loop trim cover to the top bracket of the seatback. With that off, you can also remove the cover. After that, release the push nut in the back of the turning loop bracket that holds the pin in place and removes both the pin and the turning loops. For the seat next to you on the left, pull off the top plastic shield and the one attaching the rear seat belt's center anchor. To attach the outboard or center rear seat belt to the anchor, remove the screw fixing the seat belt anchor to the rear seat cushion frame and slip both the rear belt and its lower anchor through the turning loop cover and bracket. Loosen the screw that holds the rear seat belt retractor to the rear seat cushion frame, allow the seat belt and retractor to fall, disconnect the retractor at the rear seat bracket. While installing, attach the rear seat belt and retractor to the bracket on the rear seat cushion frame, with the guide engaging over the notch on the bracket. Fit and tighten the rear seat belt retractor screw into the bracket until you reach 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.). Put the rear seat belt through the turning loop bracket and covering, then guide the lower anchor onto the rear seat's frame and secure it with a 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.) tightening screw. For the outside left outboard seat, put the plastic cover back onto the screw to hold the lower rear seat belt anchor. Attach both seat belt turning loops to the bracket so that one is behind it and one is in front. Slide the pin inside the turning loops and the bracket through the front and fix it behind with a new push nut. Place the turning loop trim cover above the bracket, use the seatbelt to raise the lower cover, secure it with the small plastic push pin and then fit the rear shield back onto the seat.
