2003 Jeep Liberty Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, remove and disconnect the negative battery cable when working with the cigarette lighter. Unscrew or snap off the knob and element for the cigar lighter from the base or unsnap the cap for the cigarette lighter from its base. Look inside the receptacle opening to verify where the rectangular retaining bosses attach to the instrument panel. Turning the external pliers so the jaws touch the retaining bosses and squeezing them allows you to pull out the receptacle base from the mount after rocking it gently. After you've detached the receptacle base, pull the harness connector out from the instrument panel. After taking the mount away from the instrument panel, plug the wire harness back into the receptacle base. Hold the instrument housing over the receptacle base, making sure the splines on the mount fit into the grooves on the base. Hold down the retaining bosses tightly until they have fully connected. Later, insert the cigar lighter knob or protective cap and link up the battery negative cable.
