2004 Jeep Liberty Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: To perform any work on the cigarette lighter, begin with unplugging the battery wire from its negative terminal. Take out the cigar lighter knob and element from the bottom of the receptacle or remove the cover from the protective end of the cigarette lighter receptacle. Open the receptacle base cover and see which of the retaining bosses are located on the rectangular surface that sits against the instrument panel. Using external snap ring pliers, hold the tips onto the retaining bosses, squeeze and gently rock the pliers to remove the receptacle base. Lift the receptacle base out of the instrument panel to get to the wire harness connector and then unhook it from the connector on the receptacle base. Take the mount out of the instrument panel. After that, reconnect the wire harness connector to the receptacle base and then attach the mount to its place in the instrument panel. Rotate the splines on the receptacle base until they fit inside the provided grooves on the mount and apply force to the area until the retaining bosses click in. At the end, put the cigar lighter knob and element or the protective cap back and attach the battery's negative cable again.
