  A: Pour a bit of clean engine oil over the valve stems and place them inside the cylinder head. After valves are refaced, ensure that the valve tip of the intake does not exceed 43.65 mm (1.7185 in.) and the exhaust maximum is 45.98 mm (1.8102 in.); if it is, grind down the valve tip until the measurements are correct, always measured from the cylinder head to the valve stem top. Fit the valve seal/spring seat assembly over the top of each valve fit, casting the garter spring over the top of the rubber seal. Put the spring in place, with its correct color-coded end facing upward and the valve retainer onto its seat. Install the locks and then release the tool after compressing the valve springs with valve spring compressor C-3422-D and adapter 6526. Should the springs be placed not more than 38.75 millimeters (1.5256 inches) above the rest of the head, you do not need to insert a spacer.
