2004 Chrysler 300M Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: To work on the valve, remove the valve spring from the assembly first. Prior to taking out the valve, use a burr removal tool to get rid of the burrs around the stem lock grooves to prevent damage to the valve guides and be sure you identify which valves belong where. After that, unscrew the valves from the cylinder head. Check every valve for burns, warping or cracking and get rid of any that have these problems. During inspection, check the valve stems for wear at least 60 mm (2.36 in.) under the valve lock grooves and check the measurements against the specifications, as valve stems are chrome plated and need to remain as is. With a small piece of hose holding the valve in position 15 mm (0.590 in.) from the valve seat, install the valve into the cylinder head so you can measure the gap. Fix dial indicator C-3339 to the cylinder head beside the valve, operate the valve up and down and compare the dial reading to the required value fromthe engine specs. Measure stem-to-guide clearance frequently. If it is too large or the guide wobbles at all, change the cylinder head. Put a little clean engine oil on the valve stems and put them in place inside the cylinder head. Should the valves or seats be reground, confirm that the tip height is not over 43.65 mm for intake or higher than 45.98 mm for exhaust; if it is, use grinding until the measurement from head surface to top of valve stem is inside limits. In the end, place the valve stem seals and the valve springs.
