2004 Chrysler 300M Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Water Pump on All 3.5L Engine on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: For engines with 3.5L, first drain the coolant system and remove the drive belts around the water pump, since it is attached to the timing belt. Once that is done, disconnect the engine timing belt as well as the bolts holding the water pump. Don't forget to note where the long bolt was located to ensure you can put it back in the same place. Unintentionally separate the water pump body from the engine. Look for damage or breaks on the water pump, thick glycol buildup around the water outlet, the impeller rubbing on the timing belt cover or bearings that are very loose or turn rough. Looking for the weep hole, you can usually find a drip of coolant, but if coolant is leaking heavily or running strongly, it means the shaft seal needs replacing. When performing the servicing, wipe the O-rings of both the pump and the cover, coat each O-ring with Mopar Dielectric Grease or an equivalent and install a new O-ring on the water pump. Place the water pump against the engine, bolt it in place and tighten the bolts so the torque is 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Next, reinstall the timing belt, the accessory drive belts and add coolant to the system.
