2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install the Cigarette Lighter in the Rear Cargo Area on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: In the boot, the power socket is hooked up to ground, with an insulated connection taking battery voltage from a fuse in the Power Distribution Center via a fuse in the fuse block when the ignition is set to ON or ACC. Before getting rid of the cigar lighter/power outlet base, first make sure the car battery negative cable is disconnected and clean of any contaminants. Notice where the retaining bosses are located in the outlet. Using external snap ring pliers with 90-degree tips, push them against the bosses and squeeze to take them out of the base. Remove the base by rotating the pliers around the mounting ring or use a fitted tool meant for pulling the base. Undo the base wires, take the base off to the side and remove the base mount ring. Place the ring on the instrument panel and lead the wires through it. The cap and the ring must be in the correct position at 9 o'clock with the tab lined up to the key in the instrument panel, before you fit them with the ring. Match the base alignment rib which is at 11 o'clock, with the groove in the mount ring at the same place. Move the base down into the bezel, maintain pressure until it locks, put on the cigar lighter cap and restart the battery negative lead.
