2004 Chrysler Town & Country Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter in the 41TE System on 2004 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Bring your vehicle for service when the manual says; start with a new transmission fluid and filter. Always use a leopard ATF +4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) labeled filter and change it when you change the other oil, cleaning the magnet inside the oil pan with a clean and dry cloth. If you take apart the transaxle, change the fluid and replace the filter. To start, put the vehicle up on a hoist and place a drain container under the bottom of the transaxle. Loose the pan's bolts, give one corner a tap, then drain the fluid by allowing the oil pan to drop before removing it. Change the filter and O-ring on the valve body's bottom, wash the oil pan and magnet and fit the oil pan with new sealant and oil bolts that you fix to the recommended tightness. Pour four quarts of Mopar ATF +4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602 into the dipstick hole, turn on the engine and let it run for about one minute. With both brakes on, take the selector lever through all positions, finishing in park or neutral. Look at the level of transaxle fluid and add some if it is below the 3 mm (1/8 inch) mark, then when the transaxle gets to normal operating temperature (180°F), check the fluid level again. Be sure the dipstick is covering the bottom of the tube to stop dirt from entering the transaxle. Set the transaxle to the correct temperature, pick the correct fluid suction device and let the suction line go through the dipstick tube to the lowest part of the fuel pan. After draining the suction line, pour in four quarts of Mopar ATF +4 Type 9602 through the dipstick opening, start the car's engine and make certain the dipstick is fully seated as you check the fluid level.
