2004 Dodge Caravan A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve in the Rear HVAC System on 2004 Dodge Caravan?
A: First, take out the part of the HVAC system containing the rear expansion valve and then carefully unwrap the foam around the valve. After that, unplug the rear evaporator line from the expansion valve and get rid of the two screws on the plate that holds the expansion valve to the evaporator tubes. Get rid of the evaporator tube fittings' seals and cover the open tube parts, as well as both expansion valve ports, with plugs or tape. Take off the tape or plugs from the rear A/C evaporator tube fittings and the expansion valve ports, wipe the new rubber O-ring seals with clean oil and then fit the O-rings onto the fuselage evaporator tube ports. Fit the expansion valve over the evaporator tubes and screw it in using the two provided screws tightened to 97 in. lbs. or 11 Nm. Cover the rear evaporator line extension with its surround insulator, reattach it to the expansion valve and put the rear HVAC housing in place. Check the cooldown function to make sure HVAC is functioning correctly.
