2005 Dodge Caravan A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: The first step to service and repair the rear expansion valve is to remove the rear HVAC housing. Loosen the foam around the rear A/C expansion valve, take it off, then separate the rear evaporator line extension from the valve. Screwdriver the two screws holding down the rear A/C expansion valve and remove it from the sealing plate, tossing aside any seals present. Cover the opened evaporator tube fittings, evaporator ports and expansion valve ports with tape or plug them. Before installing the vehicle, pull out any tape or unscrew any plugs from the rear A/C evaporator tube fittings, the evaporator ports and the rear expansion valve ports. Rub clean refrigerant oil on the new rubber O-rings and set them onto the fittings of the rear evaporator tube. Place the rear A/C expansion valve onto the back of the evaporator tubes and attach it with the screws, turning them until the torque reads 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). Re connect the rear evaporator line extension to the back A/C expansion valve, put the foam insulating over it and then turn on the HVAC housing.
