2004 Dodge Caravan A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose on 2004 Dodge Caravan?
A: The first thing to do before replacing the A/C discharge hose/line is to recover the refrigerant stored in the refrigerant system. Begin by removing the two big screws-along with the five little ones-that join the outboard ends of the radiator sight shield to the front fascia and the radiator panel crossmember. After that, remove the nut holding the discharge line fitting to the right side of the condenser and dislodge the fitting from the condenser inlet port, throwing out the O-ring seal and gasket. Put a plug in the open gap of the discharge line fitting as well as the condenser inlet port. Remove the nut at the top of the compressor holding the line fitting, pull the discharge line off the compressor body, remove the seal and gasket and plug or tape over the fitting and port. Disconnect the discharge line from inside the engine compartment. To install, bring the discharge line into the engine space and allow the compressor to breath by removing the tape or plugs from its outlet and the outlet of the discharge line. Apply clean refrigerant oil to a new rubber O-ring seal, fit it onto the discharge line, set a new dual plane seal and attach the fitting back to the compressor discharge port, securing it by tightly screwing on a nut. Tape or remove any plugs from the condenser inlet port and the discharge line fitting, apply some new rubber O-ring sealant on a new O-ring, praise it onto the discharge line fitting and secure it by connecting it to the condenser inlet port and fasten it with a nut firmness of 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Set the radiator sight shield onto the radiator closure panel crossmember, add the small screws to attach the front fascia inserts, tighten them to 2 Nm and finally, tighten the big screws that hold the radiator sight shield to the crossmember at 6 Nm. Perform the last stage and evacuate and charge the refrigerant.
