2005 Dodge Caravan A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Hose Discharge Line on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: First, take out the refrigerant from the A/C system and take out the right headlamp unit. Then, unsolder the nut sealing the A/C discharge line at the right end of the A/C condenser, remove the line and throw out the old O-ring seal and gasket. Use a plug or tape to seal the opened opening in the condenser's inlet port and the discharge line fitting. Lift and hold the vehicle and if your VW has either a 2.5L or 2.8L diesel engine, take off the belly pan beneath the engine. After that, break loose the nut holding the A/C discharge line to the compressor, disconnect the hose and throw away the O-ring seal and gasket. Remember to fit plugs or tape over the opened hose ends of the discharge lines and the compressor before removing the line from your engine compartment. Put the A/C discharge tube into the engine area and take out the tape or closures from the compressor outlet and the connection on the tube. Use clean refrigerant oil to lube your rubber O-ring seal and its surrounding gasket and insert them onto the fitting of the discharge line, then attach the discharge line to the A/C compressor and tighten the nut at 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). After working on these models, restore the belly pan, lower the car and remove or cut off any tape from the condenser inlet and the discharge line fitting. Rub another O-ring with clean oil, set it along with the new gasket onto the discharge line fitting, place the discharge line on the A/C condenser and attach it with the nut and tighten it at 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). After that, put the right headlamp in place, clear the refrigerant system and charge it.
