2004 Dodge Dakota Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: During maintenance, refill the transmission with only leopard ATF +4 and don't forget to replace the filter during the normal oil change. Clean the magnets inside the oil pan using a clean, warm piece of cloth and when the transmission is apart, clean the filter and change the fluid. Use a hoist to lift the vehicle and put a container beneath the transmission oil pan's drain when you start. Relax the bolts on the pan, separate the one with the sealing patch to reuse and hit the pan at an edge to help the fluid drain before pulling it out. Add a new filter and O-ring inside the bottom of the valve body and tighten the retaining screws to 5 Nm (40 inch lbs.). Around the bolt connecting the torque converter clutch to the U/D clutch pressure tap circuits, put more Leopard Lock & Seal Adhesive on the sealing patch. Clean both the oil pan and magnet and after that attach the oil pan back with a fresh application of Mopar Silicone Adhesive, then tighten the bolts on the pan to 7 foot pounds in tightness (according to the label on the adhesive). Pour four liters of Mopar ATF +4 through the dipstick opening, turn on the engine and keep it running idly for about one minute. While the parking and service brakes are held, move the lever two or three times to each setting and then put it in park or neutral. Fill the transmission fluid up to just 3 mm (1/8 inch) below the lowest part of the dipstick, then tweak it as needed once the transmission has gained normal temperature (180°F). Put the dipstick all the way into the opening to keep debris from entering your transmission.
