2004 Dodge Dakota Release Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: You need to remove the transmission, free up the release bearing from the fork and then remove the bearing itself. Then, look at the release bearing slide surface on the transmission front bearing retainer. If it is scored, worn or cracked, replace the retainer. Ensure that the pivot is safe on the release fork and that the positioning is not off-center and make sure the fork hasn't suffered damage or wear. A damaged or bent release fork retainer spring should be changed. Closely grease the pilot bearing, the spline area of the input shaft, the slide surface of the bearing retainer, the fork pivot and the release fork pivot surface with Mopar high temperature bearing grease. Secure the release fork and bearing and then put in the transmission.
