2004 Dodge Dakota Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: All engines use a fully protective and disposable oil filter and you should use a Mopar or an equivalent filter. Before taking out the filter, put a pan under it and use an appropriate wrench to loosen it. Turn the filter counterclockwise to separate it from the cylinder block oil filter boss. Once the filter base comes loose, tip the side of the gasket upward to prevent oil leaks and pull the filter out of the vehicle, including the gasket itself. Use a windscreen wiper to remove oil and dirt from the sealing area on the gasket. Slightly oil the oil filter gasket with engine oil and place the filter on top of the adapter nipple by threading it. After the gasket touches the sealing part, gently tighten the filter just one full turn without tightening too much. When all is done, pour in the oil, review the oil level in the crankcase, turn on the engine and check for leaks.
