2005 Dodge Dakota Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Oil Filter on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step in servicing the oil filter is to put the drain pan under it. Place the right oil filter wrench on the filter and loosen it up. Turn the oil filter in a counterclockwise direction to take it out from its place on the oil filter boss. When the filter is about to unseat, tilt the gasket end above the drain location and pull out the filter along with the gasket when it is free. Remove any dirt and oil on the gasket sealing area with a wiping cloth. Briefly rub a little engine oil on the oil filter gasket before you put it on. Slide the filter over the adapter nipple so that the gasket touches the sealing surface and hand tighten the filter just a bit without going too far. Then, introduce oil, confirm the oil is up to the correct mark, start the engine and keep an eye out for oil leaks.
