2004 Dodge Dakota Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve Seats Be Reworked to Ensure Proper Refacing on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: A worn or burned valve seat can be fixed, as long as the shape and size are still suitable, but if not, the cylinder head must be changed. Having the correct size valve guide pilot for the valve stones is necessary when refacing valves and valve seats. At the beginning, measure the valve seat axis with a suitable dial indicator so that the total run out does not exceed 0.051 mm (0.002 inch). Set a thin coating of Prussian blue onto the valve seat, slide the valve into the cylinder head and rotate the valve as you apply small pressure. If the bluing appears below the upper edge of the valve face after you have removed it, lower the seat with a 15 degree stone and if it is on the bottom edge, lift it with a 65 degree stone. It is important that the width of both intake and exhaust seats be between 1.75 and 2.36 mm (0.0689 and 0.0928 inch). Once you've installed the refaced valve springs, ensure that neither intake nor exhaust measures higher than 40.74 mm (1.6039 inch). A face angle of 44.5 - 45 degrees must be maintained between the valve seat and face.
