2004 Dodge Grand Caravan A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before servicing or repairing an A/C accumulator, evacuate the refrigerant and then remove the air cleaner housing on the right side of the engine compartment. Then, pull out the bolt fastening the liquid line fitting to the top of the A/C accumulator and disconnect the liquid line fitting from the A/C accumulator's inlet port, throwing away the O-ring seal. Cover the opened liquid line fitting and the A/C accumulator inlet port with a plug or tape, then unbolt the liquid line rear section fitting from the top of the A/C accumulator and disconnect the fitting from the A/C accumulator outlet port, throwing away the old seal. Once more, make sure to put plugs or tape on both the liquid line fitting and the A/C accumulator port you opened. Take out the two nuts fastening the A/C accumulator mounting bracket to the weld studs on the side of the right front strut tower and remove the whole bracket and A/C accumulator from the studs. During the replacement of the A/C accumulator, add 0.9 fluid ounce of recommended refrigerant oil to the system. Set up the A/C accumulator and matching bracket on the weld studs on the right front strut tower and thread on the two nuts, firming them to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Take out the tape or plugs from the rear section of the liquid line fitting and the A/C accumulator outlet, oil a new rubber O-ring and set it on the liquid line before rejoining it to the A/C accumulator outlet. Fit the liquid line onto the accumulator with the bolt and tighten it to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Separate the tape from the liquid line front section fitting and from the A/C accumulator inlet port, apply clean refrigerant oil to the new rubber O-ring and fix the O-ring sealing ring onto the liquid line fitting before connecting the port to the A/C accumulator. Attach the fitting to the engine by putting in the bolt and tightening it to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Put the air cleaner housing back on the right side and at this stage, you'll have to remove, evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
