2004 Dodge Grand Caravan A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Hose in the Rear HVAC System on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Remove the battery negative cable and use a refrigerant recovery system to service or repair the rear HVAC hose/line. Take away the air cleaner housing on the right side of the engine area and cut the drain tube off from the wiper module drain. After that, take out the A/C pressure transducer and, if your car has one, the nut holding the A/C ground strap to the weld stud on the right front strut tower, plus the ground strap eyelet terminal connector. Pull out the bolt connecting the rear section fitting to the receiver/drier and take off the liquid line from the receiver/drier outlet, disposing of the O-ring at the same time. Block the liquid line fitting and receiver/drier outlet port with tape or a plug and then unscrew the nut retaining the suction line fitting and liquid line fitting to the expansion valve and separate them, tossing away the seals. After placing and supporting the vehicle, cut the tie strap beneath the underbody plumbing connection, remove the liquid line extension fitting from the underhood liquid line fitting and toss out the O-ring seal. Stop up or tape the ends of the liquid line fittings, lower the vehicle and take the liquid line from the engine compartment. To install, put the back section of the front liquid line under the hood, uncover both suction line and liquid line fittings using tape or generous plugs and oil the new O-rings with clean refrigerant oil before setting them in place. Relink both lines to the expansion valve and tighten the nuts securely on them to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Take off the adhesive tape or plugs at the rear section liquid line connection and the receiver/drier outlet, lubricate a replacement O-ring, put it back and attach the liquid line segment to the receiver/drier outlet plumbing with a 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.) tightened bolt. Should the eyelet terminal connector be fitted, reinstall it and fasten it with a nut tightened to 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.). After screwing the A/C pressure transducer in, link the drain tube to the heater core again and include the air cleaner housing. Next, lift the vehicle again, remove the tape or plugs from the liquid line fitting in the rear, remove the liquid line from underbody under the trunk lip, lubricate the new O-ring and re-connect these fitting, tightening them to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Put a tie strap near the underbody plumbing, lift the vehicle back up and reinsert the battery negative connection. Once ready, evacuate the refrigerant system and charge it back up.
