2004 Dodge Neon A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in an HVAC System on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: First, pull out the refrigerant from the system before taking out the A/C suction hose/line. Take out the bolt on the suction line fitting and pull the fitting from the inlet port of the compressor. Get rid of the seal around the suction line and close the opening with plugs or tape, placing one on the suction line and one on the compressor inlet. On LHD versions, remove the front suction line from the mid-line connector block, throw away the O-ring and plug or tape the open fittings and connector block. Remove the suction line retaining brackets once you need to and pull out the front suction line from where it's mounted in the engine. Remove the object that holds the suction line fitting to the accumulator next, do not keep the O-ring seals and block or seal off the opened suction line fitting and accumulator outlet before removing the rear line from the engine area for the last time. During installation, put the suction line from the back into the engine compartment and take off the tape or plugs from the suction line fitting and the accumulator outlet port. Take a clean refrigerant oil and apply some to a new rubber O-ring seal before fitting it onto the suction line. Ensure that O-ring and oil are made for R-134a and the vehicle's compressor. Attach the suction line end to the accumulator's outlet port. Then, fasten the nut and tighten it to 2.3 Nm (20 in.lbs.). Open the engine, insert the front suction line, take off the tapes or plugs from the front suction line fitting and from mid-line connector block, add some lube to the new rubber O-ring and attach this O-ring to the suction line fitting. Link the front suction line fitting to the mid-line connector block and tighten the nut you've installed to 4.5 Nm (40 in.lbs.). Take away the tapes or plugs from the A/C compressor suction port and the suction line fitting, grease a new rubber O-ring seal and then place it on the suction line fitting. After that, connect the suction line fitting to the compressor's suction port. Secure the bolt for the suction line fitting to the A/C compressor with 12 Nm (108 in.lbs.) of tightness and put on as many A/C suction line brackets as needed. After that, pump out the refrigerant and fill the system with the correct type, following the manufacturer's directions.
