2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Locate, Remove, and Install the Camshaft Position Sensor on a 3.7L V-6 Engine on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: You can find the CMP which stands for Camshaft Position Sensor, at the front/top of the right cylinder head on 3.7L V-6 engines. To remove the sensor, start by taking out the electrical connector, then unscrew the sensor mounting bolt and watch how the sensor is removed while minding the O-ring below. For installation, carefully clean away the machined marks on the cylinder head and apply a small layer of engine oil to the sensor O-ring. Carefully align the sensor with the cylinder head and use a slight wobbling and turning motion until the sensor is flush, then tighten the mounting bolt so the sensor does not get damaged where it connects. In the end, connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
