2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Locate, Remove, and Install the Camshaft Position Sensor on a 3.7L V-6 Engine on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is mounted on the 3.7L V-6 engine in the front/top part of the right cylinder head. Before taking out the sensor, disconnect the wire, loosen the mounting bolt and twist the sensor off of the cylinder head to inspect its O-ring. To install, wipe the machined hole in the head and use a very small amount of engine oil on the sensor O-ring. With a suitable amount of rocking, guide the sensor into the cylinder head and push it down to tighten it into place. Do not tighten the bolt until the sensor is flush to the mounting tang. Afterward, connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
