Before servicing the engine coolant thermostat for a 3.7L or 4.7L, make sure that the cooling system is cool and pressurized to keep you safe from hot coolant. If the coolant is still clean, drain it and keep it to use again, after making sure that the replacement thermostat is correct for your vehicle. Remove the negative battery cable, drain all the coolant and remove the splash shield. Following this, disconnect the lower radiator hose clamp and the lower radiator hose from the thermostat's side, remove the bolts of the thermostat housing and pull out the thermostat housing and thermostat. Clean around where the timing chain cover and thermostat housing connect and place in the thermostat with the spring facing down into that component's groove on the cover. Place the thermostat housing on the timing chain cover and insert and tighten the bolts that join the housing with the cover cover up to 13 Nm (112 inch lbs.) to avoid housing cracks and possible leaks. Refit the lower radiator hose at the thermostat housing, put the splash shield back, jack up the vehicle, add coolant, join the negative battery cable and open the engine to check any leaks.
