2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Your Front Shock Absorber on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: To access the front shock absorber, elevate and support the vehicle and then hold up the outboard end of the lower control arm. Remove the nut from the bottom of the shock absorber and once that's loose, remove the nut and ring at the top of the shock absorber. Be sure to install a new upper nut or put Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite 242 on the existing Mopar Locknut if installation requires it. Strap the lower retainer and grommet around the shock absorber stud and then push the shock absorber into the bracket hole in the frame. Screw on the lower nuts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.), then attach the upper grommet, retainer and either a replacement nut or the old one you treated to the shock absorber stud and tighten it to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). After that, take away the support from the lower control arm's outboard side and lower the vehicle.
