As the name suggests the shock absorber in Dodge Ram 2500 vehicles is equally significant as it helps to control the handling of the car and the suspension system by managing the shock impulses. This mechanical device translates motion energy to heat which is then shed in order to minimize the discomforts that come with rough terrains. Hydraulic pistons in shock absorbers of the Dodge Ram 2500 are used to control extra movements of the suspension with help of springs. In Dodge Ram 2500 models, different shock absorber systems have been used including the twin tube and the mono-tube. Twin-tube shocks are more widespread and can be gas pressurized for enhancement of their sturdiness, mono-tube shocks are known to dissipate heat better and perform better. For instance, Position Sensitive Damping (PSD) and Acceleration Sensitive Damping (ASD) take the shock absorber to even higher level of specialization based on the prevailing road conditions where it is being used while the electrorheological and magnetorheological dampers can adjust themselves to new conditions for comfort and control.
Q: How to Install a Shock Absorber for Rear Suspension on Dodge Ram 2500?
A:
Put the shock absorber in the brackets, then pass the bolts through the holes in both the brackets and the shock. Secure the flag nut onto the top bolt and the nut onto the bottom bolt. For the 4500 and 5500 models, put in new fasteners. To work on the 2500 and 3500 Pickup (D1), tighten the upper and lower bolt/nuts to 136 N.m (100 ft. lbs.). Tighten the upper bolt/nuts to 250 N.m (185 ft. lbs.) and the lower bolt/nuts to 136 N.m (100 ft. lbs.) for the 3500 Cab Chassis (DC), 4500 and 5500. When done, take away the support and lower your car onto the ground.
Q: How to Safely Remove a Rear Shock Absorber on Dodge Ram 2500?
A:
First, raise the car and lift the axle before you start working on the rear shock absorber. Use a wrench to get rid of the nut, because air guns may let the flag rotate and damage the bed. After that, take out the upper shock bolt (1) and nut from one or both sides and throw away the fasteners used for 4500 or 5500 vehicles. Also remove the lower shock bolt and nut from one side, disposing of the related bolts from 4500 and 5500 vehicles. As the last stage, remove the back shock absorber (3) from your car.
