2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Belt Tensioner on a 5.9L Diesel Engine on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: When servicing the belt tensioner for the 5.9L diesel engine, take off the accessory drive belt. After that, unbolt the tensioner mount and carefully free the tensioner assembly from the car, since the automatic tensioner is not meant to be disassembled since it holds high spring pressure. While installing, slide the tensioner assembly into place on the water inlet bracket so the dowel at the back is aligned with the hole. Next, apply a torque of 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) to the bolt and hook the drive belt.
