2004 Dodge Stratus Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 4-Cylinder Engine on 2004 Dodge Stratus?
A: The first step to servicing a 4-cylinder engine's fuel rail is to release all fuel system pressure and then remove the negative battery cable. Pull the wiring harness from the support for the fuel rail and take off the retainer. Detach the gas injectors' connectors and take out the wiring harness from the fuel rail brackets. Remove the cables from the connections on the fuel injectors and from the fuel rail. Loosen the fitting between the fuel line and vehicle body by hand, with a shop towel under it in case any fuel leaks. Take out the fuel rail's bolts and remove its rail, while not damaging the seals around the injectors. When you are installing, tidy up the injector holes and replace any ripped or worn O-rings. Apply a thin layer of clean oil to the O-rings on the injector and place the tips inside their ports. Push everything together and check that it's firmly seated. Secure the two mounting bolts for the fuel rails to the intake manifold and tighten them with 11.9 Nm (105 In. lbs.), separately fit the fuel rail mounting bolt to the cylinder head and tighten with 22 Nm (195 In. lbs.). Connect the hose-heads to the fuel injectors, add the support bracket for the fuel rail and lightly secure all the bolts. With the intake manifold, set all fasteners to 28.3 Nm (250 In. lbs.) and with the fuel rail, set both bolts to 8.5 Nm (75 In. lbs.). Attach the wiring harness where it belongs, tie the throttle and the speed control cables to the fuel rail bracket and link back the negative battery cable. At last, employ the Drbiii scan tool to create air pressure in the fuel system and make sure there are no leaks.
