2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing the power steering pump, ensure the engine is turned off so you do not hurt yourself from the pump's moving parts. Use Mopar Power Steering Fluid or something similar, never use automatic transmission fluid and never overfill. Unscrew the filler cap, look at the fluid level and make sure it says Cold when temperatures are normal. Pour in the pump fluid reservoir until it is full and sit the fluid for at least two minutes. Run the engine for a while before you turn it off. Keep adding fluid and repeat until the amount stays the same after the next run. Pick up the front wheels, move the steering wheel in both directions and let it touch the wheel stops at least 20 times. If the level is low, top it up with fresh fluid. Put the car on the ground, start the engine and turn the steering wheel back and forth completely. After the ride, switch off the engine and look for the right fluid levels and add more if needed. Should the fluid seem too foamy or have a milky shad, let the vehicle sit for a few minutes and try the process again. Do not use a foamy fluid for an extended time; it can harm the pump of the vehicle.
