2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Power steering pumps should only be serviced or repaired with the engine switched off, so you don't get hurt when the gears move. Always use Daimler Chrysler specification Ms-10838 for your vehicle's steering fluid, for example, Mopar part 05142893Aa, without mixing it with another type, to protect the pump and system. At first, wipe the cap on your Ac coolant to see what temperature it shows and check that the fluid in the reservoir indicates Cold if the air is of normal temperature. Ensure the pump fluid reservoir is full and let it stand for two minutes. Start up the engine, leave it running for several seconds and then turn it off. Add as much fluid as you need and continue until no extra filling is required after the engine has been running. Get the car into neutral and then raise the front end. Slowly turn the wheel, contacting the wheel stops 20 times as you turn it from left to right. Look at the fluid level and add it if it is low. By lowering the vehicle, starting the engine and using the Drb Iii to run the hydraulic fan at full operation, drive the steering wheel from lock to lock slowly. Disable the engine, check the fluid, add it if needed and repeat if the liquid looks very foamy or milky. Should foamy fluid leak out, allow the vehicle to sit for some time and then try draining it again. In the park, turn on the hydraulic fan to its highest speed and lightly rev the engine to around 3000 rpm and, when done, check the fluid and top it off if it's low.
