2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Radiator in a 4.0L Engine on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the coolant, so it can cool and you can use it again. Whenever servicing constant tension hose clamps, use the correct clamp tool, either 6094 or HPC-20 and always put safety glasses on. Before removing the radiator or A/C condenser, check the location of every rubber air seal since they need to go back in those same places to avoid overheating. Take the front grill off, unbolt the two mounts at the radiator, disconnect both transmission cooler lines, the fan and the shroud's harness. Take out the upper and lower radiator hoses and the overflow hose and next disconnect the air inlet duct from the grill. When you lift out the radiator, keep it separated from other vehicle parts and the A/C condenser. First, use cold water and air to clean the radiator fins, look for deterioration or damage anywhere and examine the plastic end tanks and radiator neck for leaks or cracks. Be sure to move the rubber air seals into place, lift the radiator into the car and guide and insert the alignment dowels through the air seals and rubber grommets. Join the upper and lower hoses, with their clamp tangs properly downwards, install the tank hose, restore the cooler lines that are part of the transmission system and fix the radiator using the bolts provided. Attach the air inlet duct, fix the electric fan harness and put on the grill. After finishing the job, put the fan/viscous fan drive onto the pulley, check that the space between the blades and the shroud is good, fill the cooling system, hook up the battery cable again, turn on the engine and look for possible leaks.
