2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely and Effectively Remove and Reinstall a Radiator on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Always wait until the system is cool, then relieve the pressure, so you do not risk being burned by the clean coolant. Use special tool 6094 and safety glasses when servicing constant tension hose clamps. Before removing the clamps, check the stamped letter or number on the constant tension clamps for replacements and remember to place the old rubber seals back in position to ensure your car doesn't overheat. The first thing to do is take out the negative battery cable, drain the coolant, get rid of the front grill and remove both radiator bolts. Unplug both transmission cooler lines, remove the power steering and electrical lines for the fan control solenoid and disconnect the upper, lower radiator hoses and the overflow hose. Eliminate the air inlet duct and handle the radiator carefully, avoiding to mess up the fins or A/C condenser. Start by spraying cold water over the radiator fins, then use compressed air to dry them, while examining the fins, plastic end tanks and neck for any problems. First, put the rubber air seals in position and then guide the radiator and fan shroud into the vehicle to fit the alignment dowels into the rubber grommets. Link the upper and lower hoses so the tangs on the clamps are down, add the hose for the coolant reserve/overflow tank, connect the transmission cooler pipes and fasten the radiator mounts with bolts. Attach the air inlet duct, hydraulic fan control solenoid electric connector and the grill. Connect the high-pressure lines to the hydraulic fan drive, tighten them to the right torque value and then attach the low-pressure hose. Attach the new clamps to the power steering filter hoses, make sure the fan does not block them, add coolant and power steering fluid, hook up the battery cable and run the engine to see if there are any leaks.
