2005 Chrysler 300 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Needs Inspection and Replacement After an Air Bag Deployment on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: After a Driver air bag is triggered by a crash, the Driver air bag, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly w/Lower Steering Column Coupler must be replaced and all other air bag and vehicle parts should be checked for obvious damage. After installing a Passenger air bag, the Passenger air bag and Instrument Panel and Pad Assembly should be changed and other components should also be inspected. Anytime a Curtain air bag is deployed, the Curtain air bag Assembly, Headliner and the trim on all pillars on the affected side must be replaced and all similar parts have to be examined carefully. After any collision, if the Occupant Classification System (OCS) or any of its pieces-including the Occupant Classification Module (OCM), Passenger air bag Disabled Indicator or Seat Weight Sensor-is damaged, it must be checked and repaired as needed. Always make sure you don't change both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the OCM at the same time, since this situation can create long-lasting problems. After every OCS recalibration, make sure to conduct an OCS verification with a scan tool once the air bag system test is complete. Replace the Front Seat Belt and Retractor with integral Tensioners (driverside and passenger side) after a frontal accident with air bag deployment and look at all other seat belts for damage before fitting replacements if needed. Also, check the Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) system for any damage after a crash and change the anchors as required. Always perform the system check before plugging the negative battery cable, to avoid accidents or harm to anyone.
